Quarter Three

I think that I have grown as a reader even though I was always a good reader. I always enjoy going to the library and I would read thirty minutes a day at the minimum. But now that Mrs. Dodd has introduced some new genres and what those genres are, I have found better books and now I have a few friends who enjoy reading and always recommend me books because they know I like to read. The genre records have helped me to make sure that I read more because there is a minimum for these records. I always try to read more then the previous record but sometimes I don’t because I don’t enjoy that particular genre.

The library in my Canadian school was smaller then the one here so now, I can find more books so now I read an hour each day except for weekends. I use to not read on the weekends but now I do. There are some popular books out right now that I didn’t know about but I read them because everyone seemed to like them and they turned out to be so good that I finished them in hours. I could never find a good book that I really liked in Canada, but now I do because of all of the new books that are in the library so I now have a favorite author and book.

I have really grown as a writer because in Canada, we didn’t really learn much and sixth grade, it was more of a review, but now Mrs.Dodd is teaching us more about vocabulary and grammar and small rules that I never knew about. I was always a very good speller but now I know more vocabulary and grammar rules like when to capitalize. My mom whose first language is not English is learning from me because she needs to learn proper English to be a doctor.

I haven’t really ever enjoyed writing before but now I do because it gives me more practice and since I have read a lot, I know more vocabulary that I like to use in my writing. I never understood what “voice” in writing was before but then we were shown some samples and now I know and I use it a lot in some of my informal essays and stories.

I think that it is important to be a good reader and writer because it helps you with speech and public performances. If you don’t know a lot of vocabulary, then when you talk to someone, it won’t sound as good as if you did. Reading and writing really helps you especially if someone reads to you because you can follow them.
