The activity was basically a game that you made about a region of in the Americas. It was a game that you made up but it had to be easy enough so that you could teach the class about your region. The regions were like the U.S, the Atlantic, the Caribbean, etc. We were put into groups of three or four and we would decide what questions we want but we had to have a fact sheet and rules for the game. The games that we made were then played by the rest of our class and we were graded on how fun and organized our game was. My group consisted of Puja and Saqib and they chose the region the U.S. because they are from the U.S. We decided to make our game a mix of monopoly and life and we called it “50 Stars to America”.
The purpose of this activity was for us to learn more about the different regions of the Americas because this is an American school. It was also for us to learn about the different regions of the Americas at once because we don’t have a lot of time left in the school year and this also makes learning fun because we are playing games. We have fun and learn a lot about different regions. I also think that we did this project so that we can get to work with other people because we have not really been in groups in language arts with the people in our group before.
I learned more about the U.S because I didn’t really know about it before but I learned from my team members and research that I did for the project. I also learned that you should plan ahead of time and make sure that you can do it because we would say that we would do something but we would forget or we would just say that we can do it later so don’t procrastinate. Something else I learned is that companies use fancy décor to attract customers because some of the better looking games were thought to be the most fun. They should be but another game could be just as fun.
What I think that I would do differently next time is that I would have chosen a different region because the U.S. is kind of a place that we already know a lot about and I think I would have had more fun constructing a game about a place that I don’t really know about. I would have also planned much more because we kind of did things last minute so it wasn’t all very neat and we had to borrow the pieces from Puja’s monopoly game. I think I also would have chosen a different game to go by because I’ve played monopoly and life before so it would have been much more fun with other games like twister.
This does not relate to my goals because my goals are to improve my reading comprehension skills and to say at least one thing in every class.
