Quarter Three

The activity was basically a science fair. We chose a partner or two and then chose and experiment that we thought we would like. Then of course we hypothesized what we thought the results and why we chose this experiment. My partner and I gathered the materials up and then we began our experiment. We decided to do our experiment at Miwa's house and we wrote our conclusion at her house too. We called our project "Solution-Sicles" because we mised salt, sand, and orange guice mix withe water then froze it. We then saw which one melted the most in two hours. After we finished our report we designed our trifold and presented to the judges during the science fair.

The purpose of this activity was to learn basically. We practiced doing labs and writing a good, descriptive report. It helped us learn more about teamwork because you basicall coud not do this project without your partner who had to be there. This acitivity was also to practice our presentation skills because we had to present in front of two people. But it wasn't just two people. They would basically nominate who would win the science fair. I think another reason that we did this science fair was so that we could learn from others' experiments because we got a chance to look at some other experiments.

I learned that you should really choose a good science fair project because Miwa and I were thinking that this was going to be a good project but while we were doing the actual experiment, we didn't know how to do some parts of the experiment without messing it up like when we were measuring the excess water. I also realized that "less is more" which is something that Mr.Prairie was saying from day one. We had made our hypothesis and another part too wordy so that hey were too long. Something else I realized was true was that you really shouldn't choose your friend because Miwa was all excited at first and while we did the experiment but after awhile, she didn't really care and didn't help out anymore. She didn't even get a good staged photo of herself.

There are a lot of things that I would have differently even though we got a ninety three percet. First, we should have managed our time better because we only wrote up half our project when I was at Miwa's house but we did not really talk about it until a week before it was due. I think I should have chosen a partner earlier because Miwa was my last choice and everyone else that I might have wanted to work with were already partnered up. I should have chosen a much more interesting project because this one seemed pretty boring which is probably why the judge didn't like it. Maybe next time, I would choose to be by myself because I do a lot better when I'm by myself and I would probably start doing my project earlier.

This does relate to my goal because one of my goals is to say at least one thing in every class. So when my partner and I presented to the judge, it was kind of saying something during science. But it doesn't relate to my other goal which is to improve my reading comprehension skills.
