The activity that I am going to reflect on is the graphing project that we did after we learned lesson 3.4. We had to answer some questions about graphs and make some graphs. The new would choose a way to present the answers like a power point or a booklet. Mr. Prairie also told us that we could do a poster board if we wanted to do but he would rather us do a power point. The questions covered most of the material we had learned in chapter three and the questions were divided into section A, B, and Challenge Practice. I think it was the project that took the longest project that I have ever done.
The purpose of this project was for us to have something like a review and practice about what we had learned so far. Also, I think it was important because it helped us with time management because Mr. Prairie decided that we could only ask questions during the first five minutes of math class. So that meant that we would have to begin the project at the start so that we could see if we had any questions. Fifteen days is a long time but we didn’t have math everyday so if you started at the last moment and you had a question you would become lost. Another very important reason for this project was so that we could practice concluding and making graphs for future tests and more importantly, the science fair because we have to make a good graph for it.
What I learned is that you shouldn’t wait to the last minute because some did and their outcome wasn’t as good for two reasons. First, they started late so they couldn’t ask questions and got lost and second, they did not have time to make the presentation of their project nice. Another thing I learned is the actual lessons that were based for the questions. Like the different graphs and when and how to use them. Plus, we had to find the mean, median and mode and range of all the graphs that we had made. To make a graph, we needed to be able to read a data table and we also needed to know how to analyze and make conclusions about graphs so that when we grow, up, we would know because most of the good jobs use graphs.
I got an A- on this project and I know I could have done better if I had done a power point because I think I lost points on the presentation because I handwrote some of the questions and it wasn’t that neat and when I glued the papers, the edges started to come off. If, I had done a power point, the only things handwritten would be my graphs. Another big place I lost marks was my mean, median, mode, and range for the graphs. I wish I had checked with a calculator instead of checking by hand, I would have found my mistakes. So if I had used more technology in my project so that it would be better.
This project relates to my academic goal which is to improve my reading comprehension skills. This relates to it because for some of the questions, we had to read a graph and then answer questions about it. Also some questions, they were multiple choice but there were also some where they give information and then you would have to answer them.
