The activity was to make a project with a group or by you about the book we finished reading which was The Adventures of Ulysses. We could choose to make a play, a movie, or a book of some sort about Ulysses. After we finished, we would present it to the class. If we needed help, we would get help. I decided to make a children’s version of when Ulysses was battling the Cyclopes and when he was on the island of the cattle of the “Sun”. I made the pictures for the book out of clay. It was hard but fun. I presented my project by reading the “Cattle of the Sun” and I got 33.5/35 for the whole project. We also had to do a reflection on the project and I got 10/10.
The purpose of this activity was to represent the book and study it a little more. It also helped Mrs.Dodd to see if we understood the book. This project also helped us practice our presentation skills; it was kind of like a wrap-up of the book also.
I didn’t really learn much from this project. I just learned more about the Iliad and the hardships that the Greeks encountered. I realised that the Greeks blamed most of their hardships on their gods. I learned how easy you have to make a book so that a child can read it because I had to redo it a couple times because I had made it to hard.
I would have changed how much time I took rehearsing what I was going to say because I lost marks on the presentation. To make my book look better, I shouldn’t have put so much writing on a page; instead I should have spread it on ten pages instead of just five. I should have also tied the rope differently because the pages started to rip in the corners. If I had made my clay drawings a little better by using small amounts of clay because I used too much and they got squished.
This kind of relates to my goal which is to improve my reading comprehension skills. Because I am just answering questions about the main idea of what happened at that point in the story. But this activity relates a lot to my other goal which is to say at least one thing each class everyday. It relates because I had to do an oral presentation which is one thing that I said.
